Nancy Sullivan, Ph. D., Fellow of the Firebird Foundation, and friend of Papua New Guinea, Dies in a US Car Crash

June 2015

We grieve over Nancy Sullivan’s unexpected and tragic death along with many anthropologists and her large network of friends here and in Papua New Guinea. She died in an automobile accident in New York on July 16. Nancy was one of our most distinguished Fellows for her work on the cave arts of the Karawari region of Papua New Guinea. She was an incredible anthropologist who fought hard for the interests and rights of the people of Papua New Guinea.

Keith Jackson writes, “Her personal blog, Nineteen Years and Counting in Papua New Guinea, tracked her life and challenges as she gamely served a people she loved and a country that she came to call her own.” See the full article at: http://asopa.typepad.com/asopa_people/2015/07/nancy-sullivan-friend-of-papua-new-guinea-dies-in-us-car-smash.html
